Glamour – Tuesday Use It In A Sentence #tuesdayuseitinasentence

While hiking with his girlfriend, Maeve, and a couple of their friends, Patrick heard an odd sound from deep in the woods and, despite their warnings, he decided to venture in and investigate. When he finally returned after a considerable amount of time – much longer than it should have taken – Maeve and the others noticed he seems confused and was acting a little odd. Maeve was very concerned when he didn’t seem to recognize her . She finally concluded he had been put under a faerie’s glamour, and she angrily considered going into the woods to confront the faerie herself. She decided against it and took the less glamorous route and just gave him a hard slap to snap him out of it.

Happy 20th Anniversary, Harry Potter

It’s hard to believe that 20 years ago today, J. K. Rowling first introduced us to the young boy wizard, Harry Potter, with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (or Philosopher’s Stone). Thus began the worldwide Harry Potter craze as both children and adults fell in love with Harry Potter and his friends and their fight against He Who Must Not Be Named. I’m happy to include myself among them.

Happy 20th anniversary, J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter!

Who’ll Stop The Reign? – Stream of Consciousness Saturday #SoCS

socsbadge2016-17

A light rain fell as the cloaked figure stood at the edge of the cliff and looked down at the sprawling city below him. He could just make out the faint sound of cheering and barely make out movement along the streets as if a parade was marching along.

“There’s not much time left,” the figure muttered, then turned away from the sight of the city and hurried to the white horse grazing a few feet away and climbed up into the saddle. With a deft twitch of the reins the figure sent the horse galloping away from the cliff and down towards the city.

***

Within the city, the residents had gathered along the streets to watch the parade go by as the various officials and attendants and military figures led the way to the center of the city and the high priest’s temple, where Prince Alexi was going to be crowned following the sudden and mysterious death a fortnight ago of his father, King Ludwig. Despite various rumors about the prince, the citizens, for the most part, were prepared to welcome Alexi as their new ruler.

There were some who were not so thrilled at the prospect of Alexi’s reign, however. Hidden down some dark alleyways and high up in some attic windows and on rooftops, a ragtag group of dissidents watched the parade and waited.

As the parade drew closer to the temple, the dissidents grew restless.

“Where is he?” one asked of his companion as they waited on a rooftop near the temple. “He’s coming, isn’t he? There’s not much time left.”

The parade, at last, reached the temple, and the prince and his attendants for the ceremony made their way through the dense crowd of spectators and climbed up the steps of the temple. The gilt doors swung open to allow admittance.

As they were about the enter the holy building for the coronation, the sound of heavy hooves beating on the cobblestone street was heard, followed by the sounds of startled spectators hurrying out of the way.

A loud and angry cry of  “ALEXI!” drew the attention of the prince and his group. They turned and watched in surprise as a cloaked figure rode a white horse up the steps of the temple. When it reached the top, the figure reined the horse to a stop and jumped to the ground. In a flash, it reached beneath its cloak and drew forth a long sword.

“I will not allow you to become king, Alexi,” the figure said, pointing the sword towards the prince. “I will put an end to your reign of terror here and now, before it can begin.”

“Oh, is that so?” Alexi said with a sneer and drawing his own sword from the sheath at his waist. “And who are you to think you can stop me taking the crown and ruling?”

The mysterious figure reached up and pulled off his cloak, and a collective gasp of surprise echoed up from the crowd, as well as from those on the temple steps.

“Prince Henri!” cried out many from the crowd. Alexi

Alexi recovered after a second. “Henri,” he said with a frown. “So, you managed to survive your accident after all.”

“You know very well it was no accident, little brother. And now I’ve come to take my rightful place on the throne.”

With a scowl, Alexi raised his sword. Henri readied his. Giving a savage cry, the two princes charged at each other as the light rain over the city began to fall heavier.

Feast – Tuesday Use It In A Sentence #tuesdayuseitinasentence

Squire Matthew was honored to be allowed to sit at the table for King Henry’s feast, yet while the spread of food was a delight to behold as well as taste, his eyes could only feast on the sight of the young princess, Marian.

Sign On The Dotted Line – Stream of Consciousness Saturday #SoCS

socsbadge2016-17

“Now then,” said the man in the nicely tailored suit sitting across the desk from Jerry, “we’ve gone over all the details. If everything sounds fine to you, just sign on the dotted line down at the bottom, above my signature, and we’ll be done.”

Jerry stared at the line the man pointed at and tried to ignore the long, pointed fingernail. He glanced back up briefly at the man with the slick black hair and soul patch, and gulped involuntarily at the gleam in his eyes (was their red color just a trick of the light?) and his leering grin.

“Are you having second thoughts?” the man asked. “Understandable if you are. But honestly, this is the best deal you’re gonna get this side of Heaven, I can promise you that. Who else is gonna give you what you’re asking for? Hm?”

Jerry looked back down at the paper. The man was right. He’d gone all over town and hadn’t found anyone else willing to help him out. He was desperate. It’s the sign of the times, Jerry thought glumly as picked up the pin, feeling discouraged that this was the only option left to him. He held the pen briefly over the dotted line, took a deep breath, and signed his name above the man’s signature of L. DeVille.

“Great!” the man cried out as he snatched the paper out from under Jerry’s hand. “The deal is made!” He stood up. “Enjoy the rest of you day, Jerry. I’ll see you again, when the time comes.”

As Jerry left the man’s office, he met up with his wife where she was waiting for him in the lobby, sitting quietly in her wheelchair.

“How’d it go?” she asked with her feeble voice.

“Don’t worry,” he told her as he wheeled her towards the door. “It’s taken care of. Things are going to be just fine from now on. You’ll see.”

3 Year Anniversay!!

Well, according to WordPress, today is my 3-year anniversary here. Wow! Has it been 3 years already? Where does the time go?

I know I’ve not been posting as much lately as I had been, but life has just gotten a bit busy, what with my day jobs and doing a little side writing on Fiverr. I’ve not even had a real chance to work on my WIP novel much, either. Oh, I’ve had ideas, and my characters have been whispering in my ears, but I haven’t had time to do anything about it. I hope to change that soon.

Anyway, I just want to thank all of you who have followed me over the last 3 years, and thank you to all the new folks who have followed me recently. I’m almost at 500 followers, and I thank you all for that. I hope you all have enjoyed what I have shared here over the last 3 years and I hope to be able to share more things for you to enjoy – and share them more frequently – if things ever manage to calm down a little (and hopefully it will).

Again, thank you to everyone for a great 3 years here on WordPress.
