As someone who’s proud to have been owned by a black cat, I want to wish everyone a happy Black Cat Appreciation Day.
Black cats sadly are still struggling to get out from under the veil of superstition they’ve been under for many, many years. But those of us who have been lucky enough to have had black cats in our lives know how great and loving they really can be.
For those of you who may not be aware, here are a few reasons black cats are so great:

Lovely post, Jeanne. Was heading to the Comfy Chair when it came in, and couldn’t resist. We have four cats, one of which is a black tuxedo cat, but still WAY more black than white, so I think he counts. (He thinks he should be celebrated every day, though.) Thanks for sharing the cute memes! 😊💗

Glad you enjoyed it, Marcia. And I would say he counts. 😊

Such a sweet black cat! Love the pics. I had a tabby for 17 years and I still miss him! Might be time to make a trip to the Humane Society! Warmly, C

Thanks! Shadow passed almost 6 years ago and I still miss him. I’d like another sometime but my apartment right now doesn’t allow pets ☹️

I love black cats. I have to stay away from animal shelters because they have so many black cats and I want to adopt them all.

I’m sure I’d be that way, too

My kinda folk, Bluebird! We occasionally find ourselves with as many as 8 cats at once, though not all are black ones. For us, a home without a cat is just a house. 🙂

The most we had at one time was six. Two of them were mine, the other four were strays that my kids had brought home. With the arrival of cat #6 we became outlaws, because a city ordinance prohibits anyone having more than five cats, but since they were all indoor cats no one was the wiser. I still wonder, though, what would have happened if the authorities had found out. Would they have made me euthanize one of them?

Oh, I hope not, Bluebird. I would have fought that tooth and nail! Our cats have always been indoor cats, too. I read once the average life expectancy of an outdoor cat is 2 years, and I knew I’d been right in always keeping mine inside.
And it’s kind of fun to know an outlaw, especially one with such a good sense of humor! 😁
