Terry cut a notch into a tree trunk then wiped his brow, took a deep breath, and raised his machete to resume hacking away at the tangle of vines and tree limbs in front of him. In the back of his mind, he regretted bragging that he could blaze a trail through these woods in record time, and also regretted accepting the bet that followed. He was at least glad to have some company – his two dogs. Tom, an all-black Labrador, and Jerry, a brown hound mix with a blaze of white on his forehead, were having a blast exploring the scenery. At least someone was having a good time, Terry thought.
