A Short Bit – Stream of Consciousness Saturday #SoCS

socsbadge2016-17

“Hey there, short stuff!” Mike joked as he walked up to Suzie’s desk.

“Go away, Mike,” Suzie replied, her attention focused on her computer screen. “I’m short on time and can’t deal with you right now.”

“Not even for a short bit?”

“No. Now go away. I need to get this dissertation done.” She pounded away at the keyboard, trying to put him out of her mind.

“Please, Suzie?” he begged.

She sighed and looked away from the computer to her cute but obnoxious college classmate. “Fine. What do you want? And you’d better make it short.”

“I’ll make it short and sweet. I’d like you to take a short break and go to lunch with me.”

“Now?”

“Now. My treat?”

She blinked in surprise. It was the last thing she’d expected her annoying classmate to ask of her. Even more surprising was the fact that she actually was happy about it. She smiled. “Ok. But just for a short bit.”

Mike smiled. “Great! I know a great little place just a short distance from here. They have some terrific shortcake.”

“Sounds good,” Suzie said as she stood up. “I love shortcake.”
